Department of Zoology

Department of Zoology

The Department of Zoology at Periyar University was established in 1976, and it has since made significant strides in the field of zoological research and education. In the following years, the department introduced M.Sc, M.Phil, and Ph.D programs in 1979, 1984, and 2001 respectively, broadening its academic offerings.

The faculty members of the Department have actively contributed to the academic community. They have served as Chairpersons and members of the Board of Studies in both Periyar University and Sri Sarada College for Women, Salem. Furthermore, they have played crucial roles as members of the Inspection Committee for several colleges, lending their expertise and guidance.

A remarkable achievement of the faculty members is the publication of approximately 65 papers in esteemed journals, book chapters, and magazines. Additionally, they have authored 10 books, showcasing their expertise and dedication to advancing zoological knowledge. The faculty’s contributions extend beyond their own research, as some members also serve on the editorial boards of various journals, further influencing the field.
